After a few days of uncertainty over whether or not they would play owing to frontman Alex Turner's acute laryngitis, Arctic Monkeys are poised to headline Glastonbury tonight (23.06.23).
After the indie veterans cancelled a show earlier in the week due to the singer's sore throat, festival organizer Emily Eavis admitted it was getting "a little bit close there for a minute," but he has recovered in time to top the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm, so they no longer need to rely on a "backup plan."
Hours before their performance, Emily said, "He's definitely - they're on" on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds' "The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show."
At last, Zoe answered, "Yes!" The Arctic Monkeys are active and ready to rock! God bless you.
Emily elaborated, "It was a little bit close there for a minute, and we were thinking about whether or not we should have a serious backup plan in place, but no, thankfully they're on so that is great."
Unfortunately for fans, the band had to call off Tuesday night's (06.20.23) performance at Dublin's Marley Park.
After canceling their Irish concert, the 'Mardy Bum' band apologized to their followers.
We are really sorry to inform the cancellation of Arctic Monkeys' gig at Marley Park in Dublin tomorrow," read a post on the band's official social media accounts on Sunday (06.19.23).
Alex and the rest of the band want to extend their deepest condolences to all of their Irish fans for the tremendous disappointment this will cause. Within the next six business days, Ticketmaster will issue a full refund to the original form of payment used to purchase the tickets.
Meanwhile, Taron Egerton will reportedly join Sir Elton John onstage at Glastonbury.
Elton John, 76, who starred in the 2019 biopic "Rocketman," will be performing as the headliner on Sunday (25.06.23), with four surprise guests, one of which is Taron, 33, who played Elton.
The Sun's Bizarre section quoted an anonymous insider as saying, "Elton is going to give the performance of a lifetime at Glastonbury and has lined up some surprises for his fans at Worthy Farm."After becoming friends on set, Taron will be making an appearance to perform with Elton.
Even though the specifics of the event are being kept under wraps, we can say that Elton has designed a whole new set for the performance and that rehearsals are currently underway.
David Furnish, 60, Elton's husband and manager, teased the performance by saying, "Four collaborators of (Elton's) choosing," to Sky New. Simply, he thought, "I'd love to collaborate with these musicians at Glastonbury."
That's all I have to say, and that's that. This one is one of a kind. This isn't your typical day at work. It's an enormous live event with a different setlist.
Sorry, I can't reveal their identities, but he has four stage guests who rotate in and out with him.
"So he's made a lot of adjustments. (He is) probably nervous since he has a lot on his plate. The anxiety I'm feeling is, however, the pleasant kind.
Lady Gaga is the godmother of Elton and David's two boys, Zachary, 12, and Elijah, 10; the identities of the other three attendees are unknown. Elton has worked with 32-year-old Rina Sawayama and Years and Years in recent years.
The Sun said that 27-year-old Dua Lipa, who collaborated with Elton on the smash track "Cold Heart," would not be participating.
On "Hold Me Closer," Britney Spears also collaborated with the legendary singer.
